French Graffiti Artists

Sunday, November 29, 2009

Psyckoze

Alexandre Stolypine aka Psyckoze is a Paris based graffiti artist. From 1984, he has made his mark in the streets and catacombs of France. On city walls, canvas or recovered materials, he potrays faceless characters, a symbol of humanity without frontiers and challenges the public by imposing colour in a dull environment.

With vibrant colours and eye catching displays by him at Mood Indigo 09 you wouldnt want to miss him and his exemplary artifacts.

JonOne

John Perello aka JonOne is a Paris based graffiti artist. His 'free style' is his trade mark and colour is his leitmotiv. Both dense and luminous Jon's work is charged with street energy, raw and gestural, his paintings express themselves freely on the fragments of large canvas. He has had exhibitions the world over from Paris to Hong Kong to New York. He continues to paint his name on the blinds of paris storefronts when night falls, because "it is a need, a mean of returning to sources and keeping one's feet on the ground".

Catch him at Mood Indigo this year and join him in filling it with a ton of colours.

Sand O'Bottle

Friday, November 27, 2009

Sand-in-a-Bottle
There cant be a better word to describe this event than FANTABULOUS!!!

Sand art, as it is commonly known, started as a souvenir to those who ventured to the Petra mountains in Jordan and has now spread to various parts of the world with each region adding its own flavour to the discipline. It involves making layers of different colours of sand to create various different pictures in the sand.

What started in the 1920's as a simple combination of coloured sands has grown so much over the years with more intricate detailing and inclusion of figures like camels that today sand art is creating ripples all over the world . The craft is simply put elegant. So get ready as this year, Mood Indigo brings to you Sand Art in the form of Jordanian artist, Younes Noaimat.

So prepare to get arty as sand, funnel and bottles replace the traditional art tools in an effort to create masterpieces in the layers of sand.

Ebru- A Turkish Islamic Art

We've all heard of people walking on water . Now come and watch someone paint on it. Yeah literally!!!
Still unclear?? Well, Ebru art is an art form that has little familiarity with Indians. It probably rings a bell when we use the term 'marbling' to describe this discipline. This technique employs hand made dyes and hand made brushes to mount a marble form onto paper.

So, Turkish Art Scholar Hicabi Gulgen comes to Mood Indigo this year to exhibit this exotic art form. A Master in Turkish-Islamic Arts, Hicabi spends a lot of time practicing classical Turkish techniques in Ebru. At Mood Indigo 2009, you will get a chance to see Hicabi's sensational works, and if your lucky, try your hand  at marbling. Not something worth missing for sure !!!!

Charkha

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

For the first time ever, Mood Indigo brings to you the simple and yet so legendary charkha.

As we all know the charkha is a device used to spin thread or yarn, but for almost every Indian, it certainly holds much greater significance. The centre of Mahatma Gandhi's Swadeshi movement, this valiant symbol of defiance, which was the centre of the first - ever tricolour, is sure to lure many a viewer during this year's Mood Indigo.

I guess with all the jeans and sneakers into our blood we have lost the Retro touch a tad bit.
So, if you're looking to spin your own cloth during the time of recession, or pervade your veins with patriotism, head over to the charkha demo sessions, presented in association with Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, to get a first-hands experience of the wheel that started a revolution only at Mood Indigo '09.
